Are optional see options 1 or 2 to bypass these steps.
Cleaning- Very critical. Thoroughly clean your parts of old plating, paint or mold release. Using one of many known methods. Such as soaking them in Castrol Super Clean or Purple Power automotive cleaner available at Walmart. Be sure that parts are also cleaned of the clear base coat under the plating. Call for more details. Never use finger nail polish remover. Resin should also be cleaned using these methods.
Sanding- Not recommended. It is best not to sand parts, a clean untouched part will plate best. But if you must remove mold lines or modify your part then sand them to at least 1000 grit finish or buff them with ultra fine steel wool (0000). After wards clean them again.
Painting and putty- Not recommended. Not recommended, do so only if you must modify a part. If you must use putty then sand as mentioned above. For best results all areas that have putty should be sealed with a clear coat of lacquer or polyurethane. We recommend Tester #1961 clear lacquer. Please keep in mind that plating does not hide imperfections. It greatly highlights them. Any work must be perfect!
Resin A word on resin. Most resin parts do plate well. Although the casting must be very smooth and clean of any mold release. We suggest that you clean resin as though you were stripping it before we plate it. If your resin parts do look rough or dry and chalky call us for further preparation details. Sorry we cannot guarantee results on resin parts.
Making a rack Using a stiff coat hanger or 12 gage 1/8 inch metal rod, make a accurate 6x8 inch frame. Please bend with a pliers, not by hand, this will assure that the corners are square. Join the overlapping ends on one 8 inch side with nylon ties, tightly wrapped wire or solder. See photo #1.
Runners may be constructed using stiff square plastic rod. We recommend 3/16 to 1/4 inch acrylic, styrene or aluminum square rod, never use wood to mount. Always clean your runners of any mold release compound. It is also helpful to rough up the mounting surface with course sandpaper, the glue will stick better this way. Round runners made from coat hanger wire may be used when hanging promo or kit bumpers that have screw hole tabs. See photo #2.
